The good thing is that all the information you need to get going is in the game, so if you're like me and like to skip tutorials you can find the important stuff at your own pace. The stories for these games are conceived by the writers well in advance but are fleshed out in a particular order that make more sense for the player if they play them in order.įor someone new to games, the systems themselves can come off as a little obtuse and require a little bit of reading and experimenting. You can find the order you should play these games somewhere online if you look for it, but for my money, I'd recommend going in release order. The Trails series opened my eyes to many things about games as a medium, and for that I am thankful. I had no idea what games could do to sell a narrative through the inherent qualities of the medium. Heck, my experience as a gamer itself was somewhat lacking to the point where I used to look down at the controller to figure out buttons while starting out with this game. When I picked up Trails in the Sky, I had basically never played a JRPG aside from Pokémon. Having caught up to the latest in the series at the time (Reverie), I thought it would be nice to leave some reflective thoughts on the series on the page of the game that started it all for me.
